Frying pan without PFAS - what that means
A frying pan without PFAS at Cook & Pan is a frying pan with no PFAS, PFOA or PTFE anywhere. Not in the coating, not in the base material. Whether it is cast iron, 3-ply stainless steel or aluminium with ceramic non-stick coating - when frying daily you do not have to worry about synthetic polymers in your egg or in the kitchen air.
What is PFAS and why choose a frying pan without PFAS?
PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, a group of synthetic chemicals used since the 1940s in non-stick coatings, water-repellent clothing and food packaging. The substance is known under names like Teflon (PTFE), GenX and PFOA. PFAS barely breaks down in the environment and accumulates in humans and animals. A frying pan is what you use most often; that is exactly where a PFAS-free choice is most valuable.
How do you make a frying pan non-stick without PFAS?
There are three ways to get non-stick performance without a synthetic coating, and we use them all:
- Cast iron - builds its own patinated non-stick layer with use and oil. No coating, lasts a lifetime.
- 3-ply stainless steel - no coating, no risk of wearing off. With the right heat your dish releases effortlessly.
- Aluminium with ceramic non-stick coating - the coating is made of silicon oxide, a mineral also found in sand and glass.
Our PFAS-free frying pan variants
- Cast iron frying pan for sturdy frying heat, a good crust and a long life.
- 3-ply stainless steel frying pan for control, speed and a pan that goes in the oven.
- Aluminium frying pan with ceramic non-stick coating for light weight, fast heat-up and smooth non-stick for eggs, omelette and pancakes.
Frying pan without PFAS on every heat source
Our PFAS-free frying pans work on every heat source: induction, gas, ceramic and electric. Cast iron and stainless steel are naturally ferromagnetic, the aluminium pans with ceramic coating have a ferromagnetic base plate baked in. Move to a different kitchen and your pan comes along.
Care without coating worries
For cast iron: dry after washing and rub lightly with oil. Stainless steel is dishwasher safe. For the ceramic coating: let the pan cool down before rinsing, use wooden or silicone spatulas and avoid steel wool. None of our pans release harmful fumes when overheated.
The Cook & Pan PFAS promise
We never use PFAS, PFOA or PTFE in our coatings or materials. Cast iron frying pans come with a 25-year warranty on manufacturing and material defects, other products with 7 years, and the function of the ceramic coating with 2 years. Want to try a pan first? You have 60 days of try-cooking to test it at home and still send it back if it does not suit you.
