Casserole Pan
You can't ignore this pan: the Cook & Pan casserole pan. Whether you're making melt-in-your-mouth pot roast, a casserole for six, or just whipping up a simple one-pot meal, this all-rounder is your new kitchen companion. In this guide, we dive into everything you need to know: from materials and maintenance to which pan best suits your cooking style.
Why a casserole pan is an essential kitchen tool
A good casserole pan is the Swiss Army knife of the kitchen. You can use it for roasting, stewing, baking, and even oven cooking. Think slow-cooked pulled beef, fragrant curries, crispy oven-baked chicken, or a rich pasta sauce that simmers for hours. Thanks to the even heat distribution and sturdy material of every Cook & Pan casserole pan, you'll get perfect results every time.
Discover the different types of casserole pans
Dutch oven: The classic for perfect stews
Cast iron is heavy, robust, and indestructible. It heats up slowly but retains that heat for hours – ideal for stews, curries, and simmered dishes. Our Dutch ovens are suitable for all heat sources, including induction and oven.
Note: some Dutch ovens without an enamel coating need to be seasoned. Regular oiling and careful washing significantly extend their lifespan. Bonus: they last for generations (if you don't lose them to your mother-in-law).
Stainless steel and aluminum casserole pans: Lightweight and user-friendly
Prefer lightweight? Then our stainless steel or aluminum models are perfect for you. They heat up quickly and are easy to use. Especially handy for everyday dishes or if you'd rather not lug around 5 kilos of cast iron.
They're slightly less good at retaining heat, so you need to be a bit more active while cooking. Some models are oven-safe, others are not – but at Cook & Pan, we always state that clearly.
Choosing your ideal casserole pan: What to look for?
Size and capacity: What suits you?
- 2–3 people: 3–4 liters (approx. 20 cm)
- 4–5 people: 5–6 liters (approx. 22–24 cm)
- 6+ people: 6–7 liters or more (approx. 26 cm+)
Do you like to cook extra for the freezer? Then you better choose a size bigger.
Suitability for heat sources and oven
All Cook & Pan pans are suitable for induction. But also pay attention to whether your pan is oven-safe – ideal for casseroles or to gratinate your dish after simmering.

Tips for maintaining and extending the lifespan of your casserole pan
- Don't use sharp objects in the pan.
- Let your pan cool down before you clean it.
- Cast iron? Wash with warm water (no soap) and oil occasionally.
- Enamel or stainless steel? Use a soft sponge and avoid aggressive detergents.
- Store pans with a piece of kitchen paper between the lid, so you prevent scratches.
Frequently asked questions about casserole pans
What is the difference between a casserole pan and a stew pot?
In general: all stew pots are casserole pans, but not all casserole pans are ideal for long stewing. Stew pots are often heavier and have a thick bottom. So they are perfect for slow cooking.
Can I put my casserole pan in the dishwasher?
Preferably not cast iron – they get sad from that. Enamel and stainless steel usually can, but always check the product info. Rinsing by hand always extends the lifespan.
How do I season my new Dutch oven?
- Clean the pan and dry it well.
- Grease it thinly with vegetable oil.
- Place it upside down in a preheated oven at 200 °C (place baking paper underneath).
- Let it "bake" for 1 hour, then let it cool in the oven.
