What exactly is an enamelled cast iron pan?

A pan made of solid cast iron with a layer of glass-like enamel on the inside and outside. The cast iron gives you that legendary heat buffer (heat spreads evenly and lingers for ages), while the enamel means you never have to season it and it won't rust. The best of both worlds in one pan.

Do I need to season my pan before the first use?

No, and that's exactly what's great about enamelled cast iron. The glass-like enamel is ready to go straight out of the box. Rinse it, dry it properly, and you're set. No patient ritual, no oil routine.

How do I avoid damaging the enamel?

Three rules:

Never heat an empty pan on the highest setting. Sudden thermal shock can cause crazing.
Always let the pan cool down before putting it under the tap.
Use wooden or silicone utensils, no metal turners or knives that scrape across the base.

Isn't a cast iron pan too heavy for everyday use?

It's heavier than an aluminium pan, that's true. But that weight is exactly why it cooks so well: it holds heat, spreads it evenly and gives you the perfect crust on your meat. For most people it's a brief adjustment, but after a week you won't want anything else.

Can I cook tomato sauce, wine or lemon in my cast iron pan?

Yes, and that's exactly what the enamel is for. With bare cast iron, acidic ingredients give off a metallic taste, but the enamel layer sits completely in between. Feel free to simmer a ragu for hours or deglaze with a splash of white wine.

What heat setting should I cook on?

Gradual warming is the key. Start on low heat (setting 3 or 4), build slowly up to medium and give the pan two to three minutes. A cast iron pan stores heat incredibly well, so you'll need less than you think. On induction: never above 70 to 80% and no boost function.

Does this pan work on induction?

Yes. Cast iron is naturally magnetic and works perfectly on induction. It also works on gas, ceramic, halogen, electric and even open fire. One thing for induction: stay below 80% and never use the boost function, otherwise you'll get hotspots and the enamel can be damaged.

Can my pan go in the oven and on open fire?

Yes, up to 280°C. Start a stew on the hob and slide it straight into the oven for a few hours of slow cooking, or finish at high heat. It's also great over an open fire or on the barbecue. Possibly the biggest advantage of cast iron.

Can my pan go in the dishwasher?

No, and this matters: keep it out of the dishwasher. The combination of aggressive tablets, eco mode and hot drying cycles makes the enamel dull and porous over time. A quick handwash with a soft sponge and a bit of washing-up liquid is all it needs. Dry it straight after, done.

How does the 60-day trial work?

You can try any pan for 60 days, even if you've already used it a few times. Cook in it freely and see if it suits you. Not happy? Send it back within 60 days in the original box via our returns portal and you'll get your money back within a few days. A few signs of use are no problem.

How much warranty do I get on my cast iron pan?

25 years. On manufacturing and material defects under normal household use. That's not just a number: an enamelled cast iron pan is something you can genuinely pass down through generations, as long as you treat it with basic care (no thermal shock, no dishwasher, wooden utensils).

Ik heb gewoon meer zin in koken omdat het makkelijker gaat en ook binnen 2 min heb ik alle pannen schoon. Het eten zweeft door je pan. Ben er ook heel zuinig op.

Ik was in eerste instantie een beetje huiverig over de kwaliteit welke gepretendeerd werd dat de pannen zouden hebben. Een soort van te mooi om waar te zijn praatje. Maar gezien de vele goede reviews heb ik toch de stap gewaagd en een pannenset met stoofpan te bestellen. Ze zijn Fantastisch met een hoofdletter F!
Mooie uitstraling, lichtgewicht, zelfs zonder boter bakken de bakpannen niet aan en ze zijn enorm gemakkelijk schoon te maken. Bij twijfel, schroom dus niet!!
