The mineral layer: what exactly is it?
Our ceramic pans have a coating we call a "mineral layer". In the factory, it's sprayed onto the pan as a liquid and then baked hard in a hot oven at 150°C. What remains is a rock-hard, safe layer of minerals – the exact layer you'll be frying your egg on, completely worry-free.
What's really in it: 🔍
We'll break it down ingredient by ingredient, so you can see for yourself what our non-stick coating is made of:
- Purified water (40 to 60%): The base of the coating. This ultra-pure water is used to keep all the minerals liquid so they can be applied evenly to the pan.
- Polysiloxane (30 to 40%): This is the binding agent of the layer. It's a natural compound based on sand that ensures the coating sticks well to the pan and doesn't crack.
- Silicon dioxide (10 to 20%): In plain terms: fine sand or quartz. It's one of the hardest materials on earth and gives the non-stick coating its scratch resistance.
- Aluminium oxide (10 to 20%): A natural mineral also found in gemstones. We add this so the pan lasts extra long and the coating doesn't wear down quickly.
- Ethanol (10 to 20%): A type of alcohol needed to blend all the ingredients properly. During the baking process in the factory, this alcohol evaporates completely. So 0% remains in your pan.
The conclusion? You're cooking on a layer made of water, sand, and stone. No strange substances, no unpronounceable chemicals to worry about.

Is this non-stick coating really safe? 🛡️
Yes! And we're happy to explain why. While older pans often contain a layer of plastic (PFAS or Teflon), with Cook & Pan you cook on a layer of minerals found right in nature. That makes a big difference:
- No toxic fumes: Because the layer is made from stone and sand, nothing can melt or evaporate into something harmful when the pan gets hot.
- Eco-friendly: The PFAS-free coating is water-based. That's far cleaner for the environment than pans produced with heavy chemicals.
- Stable at high temperatures: The material is extremely stable and specifically designed to protect metals when the heat rises.
