Cookware set without PFAS - what that means
A cookware set without PFAS at Cook & Pan is a complete pan set with no PFAS, PFOA or PTFE anywhere. Not in the coatings, not in the base materials. You get the basics for your whole kitchen in one box, without worrying about synthetic polymers ending up in your food or in the kitchen air when heated. An honest choice for setting up your kitchen with a clean slate.
What is PFAS and why choose a cookware set without PFAS?
PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, a group of synthetic chemicals used since the 1940s in non-stick coatings, water-repellent clothing and food packaging. The substance is known under names like Teflon (PTFE), GenX and PFOA. PFAS barely breaks down in the environment and accumulates in humans and animals. A cookware set is what you use every day for your whole family; that is exactly why it is important not to have a synthetic coating that releases micro-particles when overheated.
How do you make a cookware set non-stick without PFAS?
There are three ways to get non-stick performance without a synthetic coating, and at Cook & Pan they all return in our sets:
- Cast iron - a pure natural material that builds its own patinated non-stick layer with use and oil. No coating needed.
- 3-ply stainless steel - no coating, no risk of wearing off. With the right heat and a bit of oil your dish releases effortlessly.
- Aluminium with ceramic non-stick coating - the coating is made of silicon oxide, a mineral also found in sand and glass. Not plastic, not a polymer.
None of these materials contain PFAS. Which combination is in your set depends on the type of set you choose.
Our PFAS-free cookware set variants
The PFAS-free sets cover different cooking styles. Choose a set that fits how you cook every day:
- A cast iron set for those who like slow cooking, stewing and searing at medium-high to high temperature.
- A 3-ply stainless steel set for those who want precision and a set that lasts indefinitely.
- A set with aluminium pans and ceramic coating for those who want light weight and fast heat conduction, with smooth non-stick for everyday frying.
Cookware set without PFAS on every heat source
Our PFAS-free cookware sets work on every heat source: induction, gas, ceramic and electric. Cast iron and stainless steel are naturally ferromagnetic, the aluminium pans with ceramic coating have a ferromagnetic base plate baked in. Move to a different kitchen and your whole set comes along.
Care without coating worries
A big advantage of PFAS-free is that you do not have to worry about coating wear releasing substances. For cast iron pans: dry them after washing and rub lightly with oil. Stainless steel is dishwasher safe. For the ceramic coating: let the pan cool down before rinsing, use wooden or silicone spatulas and avoid steel wool. Do not stack pans on top of each other; use a protective cloth in between.
The Cook & Pan PFAS promise
We never use PFAS, PFOA or PTFE in our coatings or materials. Our cast iron pans come with a 25-year warranty on manufacturing and material defects, other products with 7 years, and the function of the ceramic coating with 2 years. Want to try a set first? You have 60 days of try-cooking to test it at home and still send it back if it does not suit you.
Frequently asked questions
- Is a cookware set without PFAS oven-safe? That depends on the material and handle. Cast iron and stainless steel are almost always oven-safe; pans with wooden or silicone handles to a limited temperature, and pans with ceramic coating up to a certain temperature. Check the product page of the set you choose.
- What sizes are in a set? Usually a frying pan, a saute pan and a cooking pot, sometimes with a casserole pan or saucepan added. Per set the number of pieces varies.
- Is a PFAS-free cookware set dishwasher safe? Stainless steel can go in, cast iron is better not, ceramic coating preferably also by hand for the longest life.
- Can I use metal spatulas? In a cast iron or stainless steel pan yes; in the aluminium pans with ceramic coating better not.
