Casserole pan without PFAS - what that means
A casserole pan without PFAS at Cook & Pan is a casserole pan with no PFAS, PFOA or PTFE anywhere. Not in the coating, not in the base material. Whether it is cast iron, 3-ply stainless steel or aluminium with ceramic non-stick coating - when stewing for hours you do not have to worry about synthetic polymers in your stew or in the kitchen air.
What is PFAS and why choose a casserole pan without PFAS?
PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, a group of synthetic chemicals used since the 1940s in non-stick coatings, water-repellent clothing and food packaging. The substance is known under names like Teflon (PTFE), GenX and PFOA. PFAS barely breaks down in the environment and accumulates in humans and animals. A casserole pan stays on the hob a long time; that is exactly where a PFAS-free choice is valuable, because long heating gives the most risk in coated pans.
How do you make a casserole pan non-stick without PFAS?
There are three ways to get non-stick performance without a synthetic coating, and we use them all:
- Cast iron - builds its own patinated non-stick layer with use and oil. Holds heat for hours, ideal for stewing.
- 3-ply stainless steel - no coating, no risk of wearing off. Oven-safe and fully dishwasher safe.
- Aluminium with ceramic non-stick coating - the coating is made of silicon oxide. Lighter than cast iron and faster to heat.
Our PFAS-free casserole pan variants
- Cast iron casserole pan for stews, slow-simmered dishes and large pieces of meat finished in the oven.
- 3-ply stainless steel casserole pan for gravy, sauces and dishes where you want control over the searing heat.
- Aluminium casserole pan with ceramic non-stick coating for those who want a light casserole pan for daily stewing and dishes where nothing should stick to the bottom.
Casserole pan without PFAS on every heat source
Our PFAS-free casserole pans work on every heat source: induction, gas, ceramic and electric. Cast iron and stainless steel are naturally ferromagnetic, the aluminium pans with ceramic coating have a ferromagnetic base plate baked in. Move to a different kitchen and your casserole pan comes along.
Care without coating worries
For cast iron: dry after washing and rub lightly with oil. Stainless steel is dishwasher safe. For the ceramic coating: let the pan cool down before rinsing, use wooden or silicone spatulas and avoid steel wool. After hours of simmering baked-on gravy can sometimes stick; a few minutes of soaking usually resolves it.
The Cook & Pan PFAS promise
We never use PFAS, PFOA or PTFE in our coatings or materials. Cast iron casserole pans come with a 25-year warranty on manufacturing and material defects, other products with 7 years, and the function of the ceramic coating with 2 years. Want to try a pan first? You have 60 days of try-cooking to test it at home and still send it back if it does not suit you.
