Casserole pot
A pot you can’t do without: the casserole pot from Cook & Pan. Whether you’re making stew meat that falls apart from tenderness, a casserole for six people, or just a simple one-pot meal on a weekday – this all-rounder is your new kitchen companion. In this guide, we dive into everything you need to know: from materials and care to which pot suits your cooking style best.
Why a casserole pot is an indispensable kitchen helper
A good casserole pot is the Swiss army knife of the kitchen. You can roast, stew, bake, and even put it in the oven. Think slow-cooked pulled meat, fragrant curry dishes, crispy oven chicken, or a rich pasta sauce that simmers for hours. Thanks to the even heat distribution and sturdy material of every Cook & Pan casserole pot, you get perfect results every time.
Discover the different types of casserole pots
Dutch oven: The classic for perfect stews
Cast iron is heavy, robust, and indestructible. It heats up slowly but then retains that heat for hours – ideal for stews, curries, and simmered dishes. Our cast iron pots and pans are suitable for all heat sources, including induction and oven.
Note: some dutch ovens without an enamel coating need to be seasoned. Regular oiling and gentle washing significantly extend their lifespan. Bonus: they last for generations (if you don’t lose them to your mother-in-law).
Stainless steel and aluminum casserole pots: Lightweight and user-friendly
Prefer something lightweight? Then our stainless steel or aluminum models are a good fit. They heat up quickly and are easy to use. Especially handy for weekday meals or if you don’t want to lug around 5 kilos of cast iron.
They do hold heat a bit less well, so you need to stay a bit more active while cooking. Some models are oven-safe, others are not – but at Cook & Pan we always make that clear.
Choosing your ideal casserole pot: What to look for?
Size and capacity: What suits you?
- 2–3 people: 3–4 liters (approx. 20 cm)
- 4–5 people: 5–6 liters (approx. 22–24 cm)
- 6+ people: 6–7 liters or more (approx. 26 cm+)
Do you like to cook extra for the freezer? Then it’s better to choose a size up.
Suitability for heat sources and oven
All Cook & Pan pots and pans are suitable for induction. But also check if your pot is oven-safe – ideal for casseroles or to gratinate your dish after simmering.

Tips for care and a long life of your casserole pot
- Don’t use sharp objects in the pot.
- Let your pot cool down before cleaning it.
- Cast iron? Wash with warm water (no soap) and oil occasionally.
- Enamel or stainless steel? Use a soft sponge and avoid harsh cleaners.
- Store pots with a piece of kitchen paper between the lid to prevent scratches.
Frequently asked questions about casserole pots
What is the difference between a casserole pot and a stew pot?
Basically: all stew pots are casserole pots, but not all casserole pots are ideal for long stewing. Stew pots are often heavier and have a thick bottom. So they’re perfect for slow cooking.
Can I put my casserole pot in the dishwasher?
Better not with cast iron – it gets sad from that. Enamel and stainless steel usually can, but always check the product info. Hand washing always extends the lifespan anyway.
How do I season my new cast iron casserole pot?
- Clean the pot and dry it well.
- Rub it thinly with vegetable oil.
- Place it upside down in a preheated oven at 200 °C (put baking paper underneath).
- “Bake” for 1 hour, then let it cool down in the oven.
