Cooking pot without PFAS - what that means

A cooking pot without PFAS at Cook & Pan is a cooking pot with no PFAS, PFOA or PTFE anywhere. Not in the coating, not in the base material. Whether it is cast iron, 3-ply stainless steel or aluminium with ceramic non-stick coating - when boiling pasta daily, making soup or bringing large amounts of water to a boil, you do not have to worry about synthetic polymers in your dish or in the kitchen air.

What is PFAS and why choose a cooking pot without PFAS?

PFAS stands for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, a group of synthetic chemicals used since the 1940s in non-stick coatings, water-repellent clothing and food packaging. The substance is known under names like Teflon (PTFE), GenX and PFOA. PFAS barely breaks down in the environment and accumulates in humans and animals. A cooking pot often stays on the hob a long time with large amounts of water or stewing liquid; that is where you do not want a synthetic coating.

How do you make a cooking pot non-stick without PFAS?

There are three ways to get non-stick performance without a synthetic coating, and we use them all:

  • Cast iron - builds its own patinated non-stick layer with use and oil. Holds heat for hours, ideal for slow stews.
  • 3-ply stainless steel - no coating, no risk of wearing off. Dishwasher safe and very durable.
  • Aluminium with ceramic non-stick coating - the coating is made of silicon oxide. Lighter than cast iron and faster to heat.

Our PFAS-free cooking pot variants

  • Cast iron cooking pot for stews, long simmered dishes and large portions you finish in the oven.
  • 3-ply stainless steel cooking pot for pasta, soup, rice and anything where you want to feel the boiling point.
  • Aluminium cooking pot with ceramic non-stick coating for those who want a light cooking pot for milk, sauces and dishes where nothing should stick to the bottom.

Cooking pot without PFAS on every heat source

Our PFAS-free cooking pots work on every heat source: induction, gas, ceramic and electric. Cast iron and stainless steel are naturally ferromagnetic, the aluminium pans with ceramic coating have a ferromagnetic base plate baked in. Move to a different kitchen and your cooking pot comes along.

Care without coating worries

For cast iron: dry after washing and rub lightly with oil. Stainless steel is dishwasher safe. For the ceramic coating: let the pot cool down before rinsing, use wooden or silicone spatulas and avoid steel wool. After a big pot of soup or stew: rinse straight away to prevent burning on at the bottom.

The Cook & Pan PFAS promise

We never use PFAS, PFOA or PTFE in our coatings or materials. Cast iron cooking pots come with a 25-year warranty on manufacturing and material defects, other products with 7 years, and the function of the ceramic coating with 2 years. Want to try a cooking pot first? You have 60 days of try-cooking to test it at home and still send it back if it does not suit you.

Frequently asked questions

  • Which cooking pot size suits me? For 1-2 people 18 cm, for 3-4 people 20 or 22 cm, for pasta for the whole family or a big pot of soup 24 cm or more.
  • Is a cooking pot without PFAS oven-safe? Cast iron and stainless steel almost always, aluminium with ceramic coating up to a certain temperature. Check the product page.
  • Does the cooking pot come with a lid? Most of our cooking pots come with a matching lid. A lid saves energy when heating up.
  • Does a cast iron cooking pot need maintenance? Yes, after every wash dry it and rub lightly with oil. That keeps the natural layer in shape.
